WIDOW|GHOSTS (trailer), 2017
Created and performed by Jil Guyon

Original Score: Chris Becker
Cinematography: Valerie Barnes

Widow|Ghosts is the latest work in of a series of short films that feature the Widow character as an iconic woman traversing an unexpected environment. In this recent incarnation the character emerges in a Times Square plaza as a dream-like presence reminiscent of a mid-twentieth century film. As she approaches the camera, both she and the surrounding crowd slowly fade in and out of focus. Past and present merge in a meditation on the transience of life.

WIDOW_remix (trailer), 2016
Created and performed by Jil Guyon

Vocalist: Helga Davis
Original score: Chris Becker
Cinematography: Valerie Barnes

WIDOW_remix is the translation of a site-specific solo performance to camera. Exploring the intersection of domesticity and femininity, the work traces the actions of a woman absorbed within a claustrophobic, futuristic space as she confronts past trauma and a precarious future. With its cut-up, collaged edit, the film abandons the choreographic structure of the original live performance, inviting the viewer to merge with the protagonist’s unrestrained, emotive experience hovering on the edge of pleasure and pain.

WW (excerpt), 2017
Created and performed by Jil Guyon

Original Score: Chris Becker
Gongs: SPIKE The Percussionist
Breaths: Alexandra Marculewicz Adshead
Additional Sounds: Chris Becker

WW is a psychedelic, sci-fi voyage into the darker recesses of consciousness. With its surrealist use of artifice and doubling, the video combines abstracted imagery with footage of a woman performing a sequence of precisely choreographed gestures. This juxtaposition between the abstract and symbolic merges with an electronic sound score to create an unsettling investigation of the cataclysmic forces that underlie birth and death.

Vigil, 2014
Created and performed by Jil Guyon

Cinematography: Valerie Barnes
Original score: Chris Becker

Vigil is a video installation that features a nameless woman in a black dress slowly crossing an undefined, stark landscape. Extending from her dress, a trail of cloth symbolic of her mourning, blows in the wind as the woman moves through a time and space with no beginning or end. Her meditative stillness combines with electronic sound to create an otherworldly visual intensity.
